CKTG 2024 can be considered a failed tournament for the LPL region when they could not win this prestigious championship. This is considered the “last straw” that makes many teams in this region aim to “change blood” to create better competitiveness in the next season. Combined with the fact that the bright stars of the world League of Legends like Bin or Chovy are about to expire their contracts, the competition between teams has become heated even before the new season has started.
Recently, another once-famous name, EDG, has also joined the race to sign both Bin and Chovy. According to former EDG youth coach Lao Yue, the team is planning to buy these two stars in the future. Furthermore, EDG is also revealed to be pursuing Peyz in the context of Gen.G wanting to bring back Ruler. For the Support position, EDG is also aiming to buy another star named Meiko.

With the ambition to have both Bin and Chovy, EDG was “splashed with cold water” by fans.
Immediately after this information was shared, it became a topic of discussion for many gamers in the LPL region. However, fans think that this is a “fanciful” plan of EDG when pursuing so many stars. The reason comes from the fact that EDG itself is also facing many financial difficulties and has to sell many quality players, so recruiting “superstars” like Bin or Chovy is almost impossible.
In the past, EDG was considered a “dominant” team in the LPL with many regional championships. They were even the first LPL team to win an international tournament by Riot when they won the MSI 2015 title. However, after stars like Scout, Viper and most recently Meiko left, EDG “plummeted” and lost its position in the LPL. Even in the recent LPL Summer 2024, this team played so badly that they did not have enough points in the group stage to qualify for the playoffs.
It is very possible that EDG’s “humiliating” failure above has made the team’s leadership determined to come back and outline a transfer plan like the above. However, EDG’s current position and financial potential are very different from about 3 years ago, so it is almost impossible for them to recruit “superstars” like Bin or Chovy. Perhaps EDG should aim for a more realistic goal of building a squad capable of competing for the top 6 or top 8 of the LPL instead of trying to follow plans with such a low success rate.
